Most world governments were caught napping by the blockchain and cryptocurrency revolution, and learning from past mistakes, some are not ready to repeat the same when it comes to the metaverse.
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reportedly instructed his party to conduct research into emerging blockchain utilities, key among them cryptocurrencies and the metaverse.
“This is a delicate matter and should be looked at thoroughly,” President Erdoğan was quoted as saying.
The president was speaking at a party meeting which was held in the metaverse, complete with avatars last week.
“As blockchain technology has enabled digital ownership, Turkey has accelerated its Metaverse efforts. The Metaverse is open to development in virtual reality, product management and innovative business models.”

Present in the meeting was the ruling party’s Information and Communication Technologies President Ömer İleri.
With the rapid growth of the metaverse, it is clear that Turkey wants to be at the center of all of it. Already, a virtual Istanbul has been created by the OVR metaverse, with all 11,000 virtual lands selling out.
