To mark the International Women’s Day on Tuesday, 10 rare photographs of astronaut Kalpana Chawla were released as NFTs on the platform BeyondLife.

There were 25 copies of each photo, adding up wot a total of 250 NFT pieces in the collection.

The photos also came with inspiring quotes from Kalpana, who is arguably India’s most famous astronaut.

Kalpana was the first Indian-American woman in NASA to go to space. Sadly, she was one of the 7 crew members aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia on February 1, 2003, when it was destroyed upon re-entry into the earth’s atmosphere.

She was 41 at the time of her death.

The photos were released with Chawla’s husband Jean-Pierre Harrison’s permission. He said, “In recognition of Kalpana’s achievements, I have approved the release of NFTs consisting of rare and previously unseen photographs of moments from her life.”

“It is indeed a proud moment for us to have been launching Kalpana Chawla’s inspirational quotes and pictures in the form of NFTs on our platform. We are glad that through us and with the help of Jean-Pierre Harrison, we will be able to connect and touch the lives of her million fans.”

Ramkumar Subramaniam, Co-founder & CEO of GuardianLink stated.

Proceeds from this sale will be donated to child welfare charities in India.
