Lamborghini To Auction NFT ‘Space Keys’ Linked To Carbon Fiber Sent To the ISS

Lamborghini NFT

Luxury Italian automaker Lamborghini is the latest unlikely entrant in the NFT world.

Known for their fast and expensive cars, Lamborghini now wants a piece of the virtual world. The car brand is launching an NFT collection of ‘digital space keys’.

Some back story; Three years ago in 2019, Lamborghini sent a piece of carbon fiber composite to the International Space Station for research. The material is now back on earth, and the company will have it cut and shaped into 5 ‘space keys’.

It is these space keys that will have their digital twins minted as NFTs. The NFTs will be accessible through scanning a QR code at the back of the physical key.

So, while the eventual owners will own the NFTs, they will also own the physical keys.

These keys and their digital deed (NFT) will be sold in an auction, although no information on date has been provided.

“Innovation is a deeply rooted part of the Lamborghini DNA. As a leading company for carbon fiber composite materials within the automotive sector we pushed boundaries two and a half years ago with the joint research project in space.

Now entering the metaverse is again proof of Lamborghini always setting sail for new horizons. The NFT world has been calling to us, and we are excited about engaging with this very passionate and innovative community.”

Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini

In 2020, the Italian car maker released a series of postage stamps as blockchain collectibles.

It is a growing trend among luxury automakers, with Audi and Porsche also launching NFT collection.
