Luxury fashion brand Gucci is launching an NFT collection after partnering with digital character brand Superplastic. The NFT collection will combine the fashion house’s motifs with SuperPlastic’s digital characters Janky & Guggimon.
In total, 250 NFTs will be minted for release on three occasions.
The first drop will be of 10 items, to be released on February 1. Each of these will be accompanied by a ceramic sculpture handcrafted by Gucci’s ceramicists in Italy.
This release will also act as a promotional event for their ‘digital vault’, which they have termed as “a time machine, an archive, a library, a laboratory, and a meeting place.” The NFTs will be going on sale alongside vintage items from the Gucci vault.
Gucci was one of the first major fashion houses to jump on the NFT craze. Last year, a Gucci Aria NFT was auctioned by Christies for $25,000.
Morgan Stanley recently released a report that NFTs and the Metaverse could add 10% to the revenues of luxury brands by 2030, which explains why Gucci, Hermes and others are rushing to join the party.
