Crypto payments firm MoonPay has just bought an NFT from the CryptoPunk collection for 900 ETH (about $3 million).
The NFT is CryptoPunk #2681, a pixelated punk in a purple cap.
MoonPay made the purchase from an account linked to its concierge service. Last year, it was reported that the company had set up the service to help celebrities and high net worth individuals get into the NFT game. Among their clients are comedian Jimmy Fallon and rappers Post Malone and Lil Baby, who all have items from the Bored Ape Yacht Club.
It is unknown who the client is in this latest purchase.
Until recently, MoonPay had been mostly acquiring items from the Bored Ape collection. They now seem to be on board the CryptoPunk collection, having also recently purchased CryptoPunk #4222.
The CryptoPunk collection has so far generated close to $2 billion in sales.
