Brazilian football start Neymar jr. is the latest high profile athlete to get into the NFT game.

Neymar, who plays for French club Paris Saint-Germain, has just acquired two pieces from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection.

He made the purchase on OpenSea, spending 159.99 ETH for one of the illustrations and 189.69 ETH for the other. In fiat money, that was $521,000 for the first and $624,000 for the second, adding up to $1,145,000.

This purchase was made from his own ‘EneJay’ wallet on the platform, but writing later on Instagram, he explained that it was a partnership with his PSG teammates Leandro Paredes and Marco Verratti.

Neymar is just the latest sportsman to buy expensive NFTs. NBA star Steph Curry also bored a Bored Ape NFT for $180,000 last year.

Real Madrid’s Luka Modric has meanwhile gone a different route, making and selling his own collection.
