One of the greatest soccer players to ever come out of England, Wayne Rooney, has joined the NFT hype.
The Derby County manager, who holds the record as Manchester United top scorer of all time, changed his Twitter profile picture to one of the NFT caricatures of himself. (No, the profile picture is not the new Twitter NFT profile pic)
Rooney was promoting his NFT drop, a collection of similar caricatures that he has launched in partnership with Blockasset.
Blockasset is an NFT platform that verifies and licences NFT from famous athletes. They have on their roster the likes of Muhammad Ali, Wayne Rooney, Michael Bisping, Giorgio Chiellini, Oscar Valdez among others.
The platform is built on the Solana blockchain, with backing from Solana ventures, Animoca brands and others.
Wayne Rooney’s NFTs have a modest initial price of £40, but that is expected to go up, particularly in secondary sales.
